Vessel Safety Check Mega Weeks May 16 - July 5
Because of cut backs by State Farm,
our VSC decal sponsor, it was necessary to modify the normal VSC
decal distribution plan and unfortunately, ANSC has been out of
stock for the past few weeks. However, National convinced State
Farm to produce additional decals. They are expected at ANSC the
first week of May.
Please notify your local FSO-MA and
SO-MA that orders can be mailed to ANSC beginning on 27 April.
Priority will go to Flotillas and Divisions who did not
receive their initial order. The attached order form should
be used. It also contains other materials of interest to vessel
examiners.
Hopefully, additional supplies will
be in the field prior to the start of NSBW and VSC Mega Weeks.

Admiral Thad Allen
visits USCG Station Monterey

Admiral Allen greeted by Auxiliary Division 6
Commander Mark McLaughlin
On March 27th, Admiral Thad Allen, the
Commandant for the United States Coast Guard, came to Monterey to deliver
the mid year graduation address at the Naval Postgraduate School. While in
Monterey, he visited USCG Station Monterey where he presented a summary of
his 'State of the Coast Guard' address delivered earlier in the year in
Washington D.C. USCG
Auxiliary Flotilla 06-04 Commander Tony
Budlong and USCG Auxiliary Division 6 Commander Mark McLaughlin were honored
to have an invitation to the meeting from the station CO, Lt. Mike Kahle.
The NLUS Monterey Peninsula Council President John Sanders, and Vice
President Susan McLaughlin also attended.
We learned that the Commandant was tasking
the Coast Guard to no longer do 'more with less', but to "do your best with
what you've got". He talked about the reorganization of the service, and the
Cutter acquisition program currently underway, and answered questions from
the Station. He also discussed the importance of social networking in
today's military and informed the audience he has set up a blog, and a
Facebook account to help communicate more widely with his command and the
public.

2008 Recreational Boating Safety "Eagle" Award of Excellence
It is my great pleasure to
announce that Mike Lauro DSO-VE has been chosen by our National Area
Commodore - Pacific as the Pacific Area recipient of the 2008 RBS
"Eagle" Award, to be presented at NACON this August in Orlando,
FL.
"The Office of Boating Safety, Recreational Boating Safety Awards of
Excellence, (also known as the Eagle Award), are presented each year
to recognize one of the top contributors to recreational boating
safety missions in each of the three Auxiliary organizational areas.
Each National Area Commodore (ARCO) is responsible for selecting one
member from the area they represent.
Area candidates are nominated by each District Commodore and
forwarded, with
supporting data, to their
respective ARCO. Based on overall contributions,
each ARCO selects an award
recipient based their own qualitative or quantitative
evaluations of the data submitted
in support of the candidates. The USCG Chief
of Boating Safety makes the
individual presentations."
This is in recognition of his
great and sustained contributions to our VSC program, not only in
performing a huge number of VSCs, but because of his total
commitment to the program through teaching, recruiting, and more
recently, helping to develop our VE web site.
Congratulations to Mike for a well deserved recognition!
